When God steps in, miracles happen (concluding part)
When she came back both of them were feeling lost. They had obviously missed each other and decided to cooperate and help each other out.
“I’m afraid he’s getting worse” said the doctor. Aditi just stared at him, not able to speak
“Being a diabetic also puts a stress on the body and Naveen’s body is just not ready to heal” explained the doctor further
“What else can we do doctor?” asked Aditi with hope in her eyes that the doctor ought to give a way out of this situation. She trusted him fully and her instinct said that he would make Naveen better. On the other hand, doctor Mahesh saw a minuscule chance that Naveen would live a long life.
“Keep him happy, spend as much time with him as you can. Keep his kids near him” he said with a heavy heart but didn’t let her see it.
“Ok doctor, I trust you and I know he’s going to be ok very soon” said Aditi and left the doctors’ office. In her heart she knew what was going to happen but didn’t admit to it. She wanted to fight for her love, her world till the time she could.
The whole way home she kept thinking there has to be a way. There has to be something they could do to save him. Her mind was going through million different ideas and at night she and Naveen decided they definitely wanted to do something. The next morning, they went back to Dr. Mahesh.
“Listen doc, we know there is some way here and we want to do it. If you don’t do it we will find somebody else but we would rather you would do it” said Aditi with all the effort. She didn’t want to take no for an answer and was determined to find a solution.
“Ok, relax. Sit down please” said the doctor
“There is a way but, in your situation, it’s not recommended.” He said
“What is it?” asked Naveen who was silently observing everything till now
“It’s a bypass surgery”
“We’ll do it” said Naveen jumping from his seat
“Listen to me you two, it’s very risky and I don’t feel comfortable doing it” he explained
“Doc, hear me please. He is the father of my children. He is my whole world, I need him to be with us and for that I’m willing to take that risk. If I don’t try at all I will feel like I didn’t try at all. We need him in our lives doctor and you need to save him” she elucidated with specks to tears in her eyes.
“Ok, I will do it”
The surgery was scheduled for the next day. Naveen got admitted that day to do all the formalities and the tests before the surgery. Aditi was by his side the whole time, she held his hand whenever he felt weak and was scared for his future.
Naveen bid a teary goodbye to his kids and Aditi before going in for the surgery. They both knew it was risky but it was a chance they had to take. For themselves and for their kids. Aditi crossed her fingers and wished him luck as they wheeled him away. The surgery lasted for a few hours and Aditi held her breath the whole time. She had their family by her side.
When the doctor came out he looked distressed. Aditi jumped from her seat and asked him what the matter was.
“There was a complication during the surgery and I’m sorry to say he only has a few hours left”
Aditi was numb. Her worst nightmare had come true. She didn’t know what to do now. She quickly called her kids to the hospital and let them be their father for as long as was possible.
“We tried our best” said Naveen as Aditi was sitting by his side crying.
“Our best wasn’t enough” she said
“No worries, I’m a happy man and I have no regrets. I also know that you will do a fantastic job of raising our kids to the best of your capability and don’t worry I will be with you all the time.” said Naveen
Aditi and the kids couldn’t stop crying and suddenly Naveen wasn’t able to breathe. The nurses rushed in to resuscitate him. Aditi and the kids were told to be outside. After an hour of trying to bring him back, the doctor finally called it. Aditi still didn’t leave his side. She said he’s here, he hasn’t left.
“He passed away. Its so sad to see his family like this” said nurse Soumya
“Yes, he should be allowed to live for a lot more years, a healthy long life. Why does this always happen to good people?” asked nurse Cincy
“I don’t know. And I really wanted him to get well but what can we do against God’s will” she said and they both went about doing their work.
Aditi wasn’t ready to let him go yet. She didn’t let anyone touch Naveen. She still had hope. Everyone thought she was in shock. Something in her heart said she had to wait. She suddenly got up and started punching Naveen on his chest. The nurses and doctors rushed in to stop her but she told them to let her be. She punched him hard and after a few minutes sat down howling holding his hand in hers and kissing it.
She heard him breathe. Did she?
Yes. His fingers moved in her hands. He was back! She looked up and he was looking at her.
“What the hell happened?” she asked
“I don’t know. Looks like its not time for me to leave” he said and she kissed him tightly
Doctor Mahesh rushed in to see what was going on and he was amazed. In his career of 20 years he had not seen anything like this ever. He let Aditi sit outside and share the good news while he did a full checkup to see what happened and more importantly how it happened. Aditi and her kids were ecstatic. They couldn’t be happier. They shared the good news with their family and hugged each other.
“Looks like his system has been reset somehow” said the doctor adjusting his specs. He clearly didn’t understand what had happened.
“It was God. He saved Naveen. He knew he couldn’t do this to us and let him go. It was His miracle.” Gleamed Aditi
God surely listens, understands and knows the hopes and fears we keep in our heart. For when we trust in His love, miracles happen.
