The grandfather clock
“Brian, Vicky, be careful around the grandfather clock. I told my kids as they were playing in the hallway. The clock had been in the family for generations, and it holds a very special place in my heart.
All of a sudden a crashing sound came from the hallway. I was scared that the kids might’ve got hurt, however thankfully enough they were all right but the grandfather clock was smashed to the ground. Tears came rolling down my cheeks, Brian and Vicky said they were just playing around it and suddenly it came falling down on the ground. I told them that I am happy none of them got hurt, we can always bring in new things but we can’t get another Brian or Vicky again. At this, they gave me a huge smile and also apologized for being so careless against my warnings.
As I was cleaning up the mess, I came across a note which was addressed to me. It was from my great grandfather. I don’t remember him because he died when I was a baby. But I’ve heard stories about him from my parents.
The note said that my great grandfather wanted me to know a few important things which he couldn’t trust anyone else with. He had left me a mansion in his hometown which was to be mine if and when I needed it. The note also mentioned that the property papers were kept in a bank locker, the key to which is attached with the note.
They say that everything happens for a reason. If Brian and Vicky had not been playing in the hallway the clock would never have broken and I would’ve never found the note and key. I would’ve never known that my great grandfather loved me so much and that I was so special to him.
