“Shh! Hear that?” I asked “I didn’t hear anything” “What are you talking about? Did you not hear that?” I asked “No” Myra said “Where is your head at?” “I’m here only” “Then focus” I commanded, hitting her lightly on her head “Can I go back to sleep now?” “Shhhhhh! Keep your voice down. They will hear us” I said “Why are we spying on mom and dad?” Myra asked I stared her down and she understood that she should be quiet. Being an elder brother I was very protective of her. I wanted to hear what mom and dad were talking about, they were loud and clear (or so we thought, you can hear anything and everything that goes on in this house from any room) and that’s what made us get up from bed. I and Myra sleep in the same room since we are still very young. They were talking about our lives here and if we should move out or stay here. But why would they want us to move? We were happy here. Myra was fast asleep when I looked at her. She didn’t have a clue what was going on. She looked so innocent sleeping so peacefully. I went downstairs and pretended that I wanted water. After sipping a little bit of water, I asked – “Mom, is there a problem? Can I help you?” “Oh sweety, there is nothing that your father and I can’t take care of. We will handle it; you don’t have to worry about anything. Now hurry up and go back to sleep, you will get late for school tomorrow” she said I listened to her and went up to bed but my mind was not at ease. I was still thinking of the problem my parents were discussing. “It’s time to get up Myra, Jack” It was my mother’s voice, it was morning already and time for us to go to school. The whole day at school I was thinking away. I couldn’t concentrate or talk to my friends. When I came home, I asked my mom – “please tell me what is going on, I old enough to understand, please”. “Oh honey, if you insist, your father and I and also the two of you are not humans. We are spirits who come to this earth for a specific purpose and as soon as that purpose is solved we are sent back to our realm. I know this is very hard to understand and I will explain everything but right now this is all you need to know.” She explained My mouth was wide open. I couldn’t understand what my mother was saying; this was all too weird to understand. We are not humans, we are spirits, and these lines were repeating themselves in my mind over and over again. “Sweety, listen to me, don’t think too much. Go up and change and relax for a bit, we will talk in the evening. Your father & I will tell you everything.” “OK mom” I said I went up to my room and sat next to my window looking out, trying to make sense of what my mother had told me. I fell asleep after some time. When I woke up it was nightfall. I went downstairs to see that dinner was being prepared and Myra and my father were already there on the dining table. “Hey sweety, you’re up. How did you sleep?” asked my mom. “Fine mom” I said “Come, let’s all have dinner together” she said We all sat down and enjoyed the lovely meal my mother had prepared for all of us. After dinner our parents made us (I & Myra) sit down and listen to what they wanted to say. “Children you need to listen to us carefully now. I don’t know how much you will understand but I will try my best to explain everything. Here goes…we are spirits from the other world and we have been sent here to do a job, as soon as we accomplish it we are sent back to our realm and deported again to earth with a new mission a new identity. Day before we were just talking about this only, when you, jack, heard us talking. We have almost accomplished our job here and it’s time to move on.” Explained dad “Daddy, I don’t understand anything, what is going on here?” said Myra very innocently. “Honey, there is nothing to worry about, everything is fine, mommy and daddy will take care of everything” mom assured Myra. “Dad, I need to know more, tell me exactly what are we supposed to do? And how are we supposed to do it?” I asked to be continued...
