‘Are you sure, Rhea?’ asked her mother.
‘Of course I’m, survival of the fittest, mother. I’m not going against Darwin. Also I don’t want unnecessary scars on my body.’ It’s a known fact that we are all born to die. And frankly, I don’t understand why it has to be made into such a big deal. If it were not for my mother I would have said that to the bunch of people outside my house, some of them with young kids, shouting slogans, waving placards, literally wanting me to cut one of my beating hearts out. “Save A Life. Donate!” they shouted. For someone who is one in billions, 7.125 billion to be exact, I expect to be treated better. Scientists are still befuddled regarding my condition that gave me two hearts in my mother’s womb. But years of research and sticking needles into me have led them nowhere, and they have labelled me as a freak mutation. It’s so rare – literally one in all humankind – that they didn’t even name the anomaly (as they call it, I will call it awesomeness). I wanted to name the condition myself, something on the lines of Rhea’s Heartsawesome but the doctors aren’t thrilled with the suggestion. Instead they want to cut one of them out and save a life. Huh? An IQ of 180, increased concentration, exceptional athleticism and a phenomenal metabolism rate – are just the few boring benefits of an increased blood circulation. Why would I ever give that up? ‘Ok dear now come and have your breakfast’ said her mother ‘Ok mom’ ‘What time will you come back from college?’ asked her mother ‘I will come back when I can go, have you seen the crowd outside? I don’t think I will be able to step outside of the house’ she said ‘Oh I forgot to tell you Myra called for you’ ‘When mom?’ ‘About half an hour back’ ‘I’ll give her a call then’ ‘Hey Myra, what’s up buddy?’ she asked ‘Hey Rhea, where are you?’ ‘At home, I can’t get out; have you seen what’s going on outside?’ she asked ‘Yeah I saw, true you can’t get out but you certainly come to my house, I live right above your house’ he said ‘Alright I’m coming in 10 minutes’ Myra and Rhea had been childhood friends, grown up and always doing everything together. They were mischievous always playing tricks but not all of their time was spent on these activities. They also put their creative juices to good use. They used to help out people in their housing society and do a lot of charitable work like once they had put up a dance show with the help of their other friends to collect money to provide education to poor kids in their neighborhood, they also had a children’s club, Rug rabbits, in which they had all sorts of activities (children’s carnival, plays, various games and fun activities) for the kids. All the children in their society were a part of it, their main idea was for the kids to do something creative and not just watch TV or play games on their i pads, tablets, phones etc. ‘So, what’s going on with you?’ asked Myra ‘What do you mean?’ ‘I mean what are you thinking of doing, you also went to that special doctor yesterday?’ asked Myra ‘Like all the others before even he wants to do various tests and then think of a way out which I’m least interested in. My mother thinks he is our solution but I’m just trying to explain it to her that I’m good as I am; I don’t want to change anything about myself’ ‘Right and what about the people outside your house, what are you going to do about that?’ ‘Ah that, well I know what I want but people won’t just let me be’ said Rhea ‘That’s why they are called our society, they just want you to feel guilty because you are unusual’ said Myra ‘Doesn’t make sense at all but you’re right and I’m not going against my will’ ‘That’s the spirit’ ‘That’s that, tell me what happened to that boy you liked in college, what was his name I forgot’ asked Myra curiously ‘Who, Rohan; I never really liked him that much, he’s just good to look at, you know eye candy’ explained Rhea ‘Alright’ ‘Why are you so curious about him? Do you like him?’ ‘No way, I was just asking because of you, you were only yapping about him all the time, I haven’t even seen him just his pictures’ said Myra ‘Ok, is there anybody else I should know about?’ asked Rhea ‘No, not at all’ Rhea went home a few minutes later and spent the rest of the day lying in bed. ‘Honey dinner’s on the table’ called her mom ‘Coming’ ‘What’s wrong baby, why are you so low today? Is it because of the people outside?’ asked her mom ‘No mom, I’m just exhausted; I just wanted to sleep today that’s all’ she said But the fact of the matter was that she was feeling helpless, every person on this planet was after her to do something she wasn’t comfortable doing. God had made her special and she wanted to be that way, she didn’t want the doctors to cut out a piece of her and give it to somebody else. It should be on her will to donate it. All her life doctors had done researches and a variety of tests to reveal no results. It was just a matter of nature. It is like one tree in a forest will always be different from the other likewise Rhea was different from others and not everybody was ready to accept that yet. After a good nights’ sleep she was ready to be back in action. The group of people outside her house shouting slogans were nowhere to be seen and she was happy about it. She went to college in gala mood and when she came home in the evening they were back; people with placards shouting slogans, she somehow dodged them and went to bed immediately. ‘Rhea’ called her mother ‘I don’t know what to do about them’ she said ‘You can’t lose hope like that, you’re a strong girl; get up and face the music’ said her mother ‘But what can I do?’ ‘For that you need to get out of bed’ ‘Yes mom you are absolutely right, I just had a weak moment’ said Rhea ‘Good girl, now get up and come out, we’ll decide what we want to do’ said her mother ‘Listen we need to do something bold and impactful’ ‘How do we do that?’ asked Rhea ‘We need to send somebody in their camp to see what’s the inside story?’ ‘Huh, I didn’t get you mom?’ ‘We need to know what they are thinking right now, we need to get inside their heads’ ‘Who can we send?’ asked Rhea ‘Umm’ ‘How about Myra’ they both said at the same time and giggled ‘How will we send her?’ ‘Has she been seen around in the area lately?’ asked her mother ‘How do I know that mom?’ Read the next part here
