“Hey Nick, Come on open up, I’m freezing out here” said Kat standing at her boyfriends’ door There was no answer. She called again, still nothing. She went around the house to see if the back door is open and there he was, lying down on the floor, unconscious. Kat got really scared and started banging the back door. Nick didn’t move at all. Quickly she bent down to look for the spare key under the potted plant and opened the door. “Nick, are you alright? What happened?” she asked “Oh God, what do I do? I should call the ambulance” she said and ran to get the phone. She swiftly dialed the number and got a glass of water to splash it on Nick’s face. “Baby, get up please” she said trying to wake him up. Two minutes later the door bell rang, Kat ran to open the door and let the paramedics in. “Ma’am what happened in here?” asked one of the paramedics. “I don’t know, when I came he was like this” said Kat “I’m Ben; I’m going to give him CPR. Please stand back” “Ok” she said and nodded After trying twice he finally woke up; he was panting and gasping for air when Kat hugged him tightly. “I’m ok. You can let me go now sweety” said Nick “What happened to you?” asked Kat as the paramedics were also looking to get an answer “I had a glass of wine and suddenly felt something in my chest. I felt as if a road roller is pressing against my chest and I couldn’t breathe, I was breathing heavily and then fell down on the floor, that’s when I think I lost consciousness. “Oh baby, I was so scared for you” she said “Sir, was there anybody else with you?” asked Ben the paramedic “Umm...I don’t think so. I was supposed to meet somebody but he never showed up” he said “Who?” asked Kat Curiously “The one I told you about, a Mr. Jenkins who wanted to invest in my project but he never came, so I had a glass of wine alone” he explained “How can that be, there are two glasses of wine here” said Ben “Huh? Not possible, I was alone here the entire time” “Honey, I think something is wrong here and we need to take you to the hospital to get you tested. I have a feeling you have been poisoned” “You may be right honey, let’s go” he said and both of them went to the hospital with the paramedics to get him tested. The test report was to come after two days so Kat and Nick were very careful not to leave each other alone. Whoever it was may try to hurt Nick again or maybe target Kat. Meanwhile both of them got back to their normal routine, going to work, to the gym etc. Two days later when the report came, it said that indeed Nick had been poisoned and it was quite a high dosage, if Kat hadn’t come at the right time Nick might not have survived. “Oh my God” exclaimed Kat and hugged Nick tightly “I can’t even think of living without you, who would do such a horrible thing” “I don’t know sweety but thanks to you I’m alive, now let’s try and figure out who could be after me” said Nick “Ok so who is this guy, tell me about him?” asked Kat “He is some rich guy who was interested in investing with me. You know I had told some friends of ours to spread the word around. He said he’s a friend of Brian who told him about our project” described Nick “Let’s talk to Brian then” said Kat That very moment they called Brian up only to learn that he’s not in the country and would be back after a month. “That’s a dead end, what now?” asked Kat “I don’t know but we need to act fast” said Nick The next day a package was delivered to Nick’s house and when he saw it he was astound. He quickly called Kat and told her to come there immediately. “Honey, what’s wrong?” she asked her boyfriend “Look at this” he said pointing to the open package. She looked at the box and stepped back. “What is this, what are we supposed to do now?” she asked In the box were a note and a few little things. The note said – ‘Mr. Nick Vanson, you have to do something for us. If you don’t comply with us you won’t be able to live another day. What happened to you a few days back was just a trailer and maybe your good luck that Ms. Solley came to save you, next time we won’t give you that chance. Why us?” asked Kat “Maybe they heard about our project, our new safest lock system unbreakable by anyone except for us of course” he said jokingly “Jokes apart Nick this is the reason. They are after us because of our lock system” she said “What do you think we should do?” he asked “We have to comply with them for now honey; we will think of a way to get out of this situation” she said “Ok” They began their preparations for the heist. Nick got the blueprints of the building from city hall and they started visualizing how to go about it. The building was heavily guarded and it wasn’t easy to get into it without being detected. “Let’s start, we will enter through the west block and make our way to the centre of the building and then take the stairs upstairs to the main office area where the safe is” said Nick “And how will we trick the guards, they are there 24x7. It is a highly secured building” “That I haven’t thought about” he said “Don’t worry honey we have time, we will figure it out. Come let’s get some sleep, it’s late” said Kat kissing Nick They figured they will enter the building during the office hours and hide till the offices close; in the blueprints there was an area which was not in use as of today, that area was a service lift which was constructed originally but later scraped off. So, the main lift was in front of the service lift hiding it completely and someone who’s not seen the blueprints would never be able to make out that there is something behind the main lift area. “We can monitor the guards, where they are? What places to hide and move ahead? We can do that only once we are there” said Kat “Yes we can but it’s going to be highly risky” said Nick “I know but we have to take that risk don’t we?” “Yes you are right, we need to plan for the afterwards as well” he said Read the next part here
