The haunted mansion (Part 2)
In the moment, Ariana could only think of one thing. She remembered a book in her library about supernatural things and spirits with unfinished business. She went in there and searched for the book. The book said that if there is something paranormal in the vicinity, it will come out if you chant a spell (which was mentioned in the book).
She did exactly as the book said and as soon as she finished 2 small children about the age of 3-5 years appeared in front of her.
“Mom, you called us?” said one of the kids.
“I’m not your mom. Where is my fiancé and what have you done with him?” Ariana said
“Are you angry with us mom, did we do something. Don’t leave us again mom, we get really scared without you” Said the kid.
Ariana thought she would have to play along with them if she wanted her fiancé back.
“Yes I am angry with you. Now don’t create any trouble. Go to your room and sit there quietly.” She said.
After the kids disappeared, she wondered who they were and why were they calling her ‘mom’? She decided she would have to find out who lived here before them and get to the bottom of the story and fast!
She went to the city hall and dug out old records for the property. It said that there was a family (parents and two little kids) who lived here many years ago but the parents were killed in a car crash and since then the children had also vanished mysteriously. There had been numerous attempts to find the kids but no one ever found anything, no body, nothing.
She went home and opened the big old trunk which had been locked since the day they moved in. It had been there before they were there. She had thought it must have been left behind by the old owners and she hadn’t had the time to open it yet. She had had to break open the lock on the trunk to open it. It had some old pictures of the family who had lived here. In fact she could recognize the kids from the painting. They were the same kids that had called her mom. And the most astonishing things’ was that the mother was just like Ariana. Same face, same built everything, only difference being the clothes. She knew now why the kids had mistaken her for their mother.
Next step was to find out what had happened to the children. But how; none of the local papers would have the news because no one knew what happened to them. The papers just said that they have disappeared.
She would have to find out from the children only. So she called out to them.
“Children, where are you? Come to mom” She called out.
“Yes mother, you called us” said one of the kids’.
“Children please tell me what you remember last. After your father and I left for the ball that night, what happened in the house? She asked the children.
“Mother, we were playing in our room after you and daddy left. The nanny was sitting with us reading a book” said the kid.
“Then what happened?”
“Then she said we need to change into our night clothes, have our milk and go to bed. She went to the kitchen to get us milk. She came back with two glasses of milk. We had our milk and went to bed like she said. But when we woke up, we felt an eerie feeling. Like there was something bad in our house. Ever since we’ve been here looking for you.” Explained the kids
“Oh my God, now I get it. I know what must’ve happened that night. Ok kids, just one more question. How did I treat the maid and the servants in the house?” She asked
“Well, you treated them real badly, you used to hit the maid whenever she did something wrong and scream at the servants if they said something back to you” said the kid.
“Now, I understand the whole situation” She said
