The haunted mansion (Part 1)
She looked up from her writing. Was that a creak? But she’d oiled the hinges just yesterday.Who could that be, she wondered? It was almost 11 o’ clock at night and she was alone in this big mansion of hers that she’d just moved into a few days ago. It was kind of a rusty old place and she’d only moved in because her fiancé insisted that they get a place in this neighbourhood.
Ariana was working in the study, writing her first book. It was her passion. She’s written articles and columns uptil now. This was her first attempt at writing a book. She had been so busy settling in the house, unpacking everything, decorating this massive place. There was no time left for her writing. So, today when Lucas had gone out with his friends for a few drinks, Ariana thought she would start working on her book.
She again looked up, there was another creak. She got up from her chair and went towards the door. She looked outside but there was no one there. She turned around and went back to work.
It was 2 o’ clock in the morning when Lucas woke her up. She had slept in the study while working.
“Hey, wake up, you must have dozed off” said Lucas.
The next morning, they were sitting in the patio having tea. There was a rattling noise inside.
“What’s that noise?” Lucas asked.
“I don’t know, let’s go and see what it is” said Ariana.
When they went inside the noise grew louder. It seemed to be coming from inside the walls. And it was moving from place to place.
After 5 minutes the noise stopped and there was another noise. This time it was of a child laughing, a small child of about 2 – 3 years. Both of them got really scared. They had no idea what was going on in this house.
“Lucas, what’s happening? What have you brought me into?” Ariana asked.
“I don’t know honey. We’ll figure this out, don’t worry” Lucas assured Ariana.
Following this incident, there were 3 more incidents like these in the next week. Lucas and Ariana were really scared and didn’t know what to do. Then one day, Lisa, one of Ariana’s best friends suggested they go to a specialist.
“What kind of a specialist Lisa?” Ariana asked her friend.
“You know the kinds that know about this stuff, ghosts and supernatural beings.” She said
“You think there is a ghost in this house?” Ariana asked
“You never know what these things are?” Lisa said
“Well, it could be our neighbours playing a silly prank on us.” Ariana clarified
“Have you seen any neighbours around here? Every house in this Lane is empty.” Lisa said
“Oh, I’m so confused. I don’t know what to do?” Ariana cried.
“Listen to me, call the specialist. They’ll know what to do.”
“Ok, let me talk to Lucas about this” Ariana said.
That night Ariana thought she would talk to Lucas when he comes home that night. She kept waiting but he didn’t come. It was 3 o’clock in the morning and Ariana was really worried about him. He had never been this late and his office said he left the office at his usual time, 8 o’ clock. Then where could he be?
It was 6 o’ clock when she woke up. She must have dozed off while waiting for Lucas. She got out of bed and started calling his name. Maybe he came home but didn’t come to the room. She checked the study, the hall, dining room, the upstairs room, the terrace, no trace of him. She went back to her room and picked up her phone to call the police and report him missing. But she stopped midway, she heard someone’s voice. It was coming from a distance. She went closer to the wall to hear it. It was Lucas’s voice. He was calling out for help.
“Oh my God, Lucas, Where are you?” Ariana screamed.
“Help me, get me out of here” Lucas cried out loud.
“What is going on in here? Hang on Lucas, help is on the way. I will get you out of there very soon.” Ariana said
